Aid Under Fire: Gaza Civilians Killed at U.S.-Backed Relief Site
In Rafah, southern Gaza, a tragic scene unfolded as Israeli forces fired on a group of Palestinians gathered at a U.S.-supported aid distribution point. The attack killed at least 30 individuals and injured 120 more, leaving a trail of devastation where people had only come seeking food and survival.
The Gaza Government Media Office strongly denounced the incident, claiming that such aid centers have now become “mass death traps.” They reported that this attack is part of a broader pattern, with at least 39 killed and more than 220 wounded at similar sites within a single week.
Officials from Gaza argued that these deadly episodes are not random but reflect a coordinated strategy. According to their statement, Israel is using humanitarian aid to manipulate and control civilians, while the U.S. enables these actions by funding and politically shielding them from accountability.
On the diplomatic front, ceasefire discussions have hit a roadblock. Hamas requested revisions to a truce plan introduced by the United States, emphasizing lasting peace and unobstructed aid. However, U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, swiftly rejected the revisions, deeming them “unacceptable.”
The ongoing assaults on relief zones have drastically undermined humanitarian efforts. Aid workers now fear for their safety, and civilians must gamble with their lives just to receive basic necessities. The notion of a safe haven has eroded as aid points become synonymous with danger.
With civilian casualties mounting and diplomacy at a standstill, international calls for intervention are growing louder. Global leaders and human rights organizations are demanding accountability and protection for Gaza’s population. Without urgent action, the crisis threatens to escalate beyond repair.
